Pyjamas, books and bedtime at ARISE

Cover shot of the book Don't Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus

Recently I visited ARISE, one of the YWCA Toronto’s shelters, to see one of their kids programs in action.  Pyjamatime is a partnership between the Toronto Public Library and the YWCA Toronto.  The moms and kids really look forward to their reading time.   When you’re coming from an unsafe home, time like this is really important according to the shelter’s staff. Moms have a chance to relax and interact with their kids while they learn to read. The program is also meant to give the kids a bedtime routine.  They all attend the group in their pyjamas. Although, I can’t imagine they go to bed very easily after all this fun.  Click here and then click on pyjamatime.m4a to have a listen.
