Creating change at the 2014 YWCA Toronto Women of Distinction Awards

Last week, we hosted the 34th annual YWCA Toronto Women of Distinction Awards (presented by Sun Life) to honour seven extraordinary women and raise essential funds for YWCA Toronto programs and services. In case you missed this remarkable event, check out our Storify recap of guests’ tweets and Instagrams throughout the evening.

The ceremony was evocative and thought-provoking, not least thanks to the inspiring video profiles of each of the 2014 Women of Distinction produced by sponsor Chalkboard Media. Chalkboard also produced a highlights reel of the evening, and a moving video about the impact of the YWCA Toronto December 6th Fund, a program that offers interest-free loans to women fleeing violence.

At this year’s Women of Distinction Awards we put the December 6th Fund in the spotlight for KPMG’s Create Change challenge, in which sponsor KPMG generously matched (up to $35,000) any funds donated to YWCA Toronto that evening. We are thrilled to announce that KPMG’s Create Change Challenge raised $100,000 on May 22, 2014 to support YWCA Toronto programs. In total, the 2014 YWCA Toronto Women of Distinction Awards raised over $700,000 to support our life-changing work with Toronto’s women and girls.
