We’re Cooking up Something New and Exciting!

If you receive our monthly YWCA Toronto Turning Points e-newsletter, you’ll already know that this year’s YWCA Women of Distinction event is going to be as distinct as the women we honour! When we launched the first YWCA Women of Distinction back in 1982 at the Royal York, we didn’t know it would become what it is today; a contemporary showpiece for advancing Toronto’s remarkable women.

Traditionally, the awards event has been an elegant affair with a sit down dinner at tables of ten. Guests tell us they’ve enjoyed having dinner during the exciting awards presentations, but they wish they could  mingle and chat more with the other people attending the event. This year’s new format will get us all talking about the evening together in a chic, lounge-style reception area in Constitution Hall. With white leather couches, glass and chrome furniture and bright, modern touches, the space will create an open atmosphere that’s perfect for socializing and networking.

We have the red carpet ready for your paparazzi shots again this year and after you’ve sipped a cocktail, you’ll find we have female celebrity chefs offering signature dishes at ‘stations’ around the reception area. We’re guaranteed a menu of culinary excellence that will have you and your guests going back for seconds.

Our sponsors will have lounges you can visit and you should be sure to drop by the YWCA Toronto Lounge to meet our past and present Women of Distinction. You and your guests will make your way to the John Bassett Theatre for the Awards Presentation (think of the event as more Oscars than Golden Globe). All eyes will be on the stage as we honour seven amazing women. We’ve got some exciting things up our sleeves in the way of entertainment but you’ll just have to keep checking back at www.womenofdistinction.ca for more details as they become available.

After we’ve honoured the last woman, one and all will make their way back to Constitution Hall which will be transformed during the awards presentation into a dessert, cheese and fruit after-party. You can continue networking, mingle with friends and celebrate another seven amazing recipients!

The 2012 Women of Distinction event was an amazing success and our guests left inspired by the women we honoured. Best of all, we raised over $775,000 to support over 30 YWCA programs across Toronto.
